Most marine parts that need reproducing are old, discontinued, or from a builder that no longer exists — so there is no drawing and no CAD file. That is the normal starting point for us, not a problem. Send the worn part itself, photos with a few measurements, or even a hand sketch and we measure, redraw and machine it in the correct corrosion-grade material. No CAD required, and for genuinely obsolete components a part number is not needed either.

Haul-out deadline. Tell us when the vessel goes back in the water — we work back from that date. A single CNC-machined part in 316L stainless is typically 5–10 working days after approval. We confirm the timeline honestly before you commit.

How We Reproduce a Marine Part With No Drawings

A worn marine component is rarely a clean copy job. Salt water erodes sealing faces, cavitation pits bronze, and a seized shaft can distort a housing. Copying the part as-is would just reproduce the wear. Instead we measure what survives, then restore the geometry to its original engineering intent — the job the OEM drawing would have done if it still existed.

  • 3D scanning for complex form — impeller vanes, cast manifold bodies, propeller hubs and worn contours are captured as a dense point cloud, the fastest way to record organic marine geometry.
  • CMM for the features that matter — bores, shaft tapers, seal grooves, flange bolt patterns and thread forms are probed to ±0.01 mm. A scan mesh alone is not a manufacturing definition; the critical fits are gauged, not estimated.
  • Engineering judgement on worn or missing features — where a surface is eroded or a dimension is unmeasurable, we reconstruct it from the mating part, the bearing or seal fit, or the standard the original followed (ISO shaft taper, metric / BSP thread, standard seal size).
  • First-article inspection — the first piece is measured back against the new drawing and, where possible, test-fitted on the vessel before any batch is run.

What to send us. Any one of these is enough to start: the old part (worn is fine), clear photos with a caliper or tape measure in shot, a hand sketch with the key dimensions, or a sample to copy. Send photos and the worn part

Include the marine environment: salt water, fresh water, brackish. This determines whether we reproduce in 316L or recommend an upgrade to duplex.

CMM measurement

All bore diameters, shaft interfaces, flange patterns, seal grooves and corrosion-critical surfaces measured to ±0.01 mm.

CAD and material specification

Drawing to your approval with material grade specified. Electropolish or passivation noted where applicable.

Machine, passivate, ship

Stainless parts passivated post-machining. Bronze and brass components deburred and inspected. Shipped with CMM report.
